I opened a PPF account in 1998 and I have been regularly investing on it. It is expiring on 2013 and I am planning to renew this account for another 5 years and I will continue to invest in this account. My questions are:

1. How many times a PPF account can be renewed after its tenure of 15 years?

2. During these block of 5 year renewals, can we withdraw more than 80% of the funds?

If ppf account is matured after 15 years. How much deduction a bank can make from your final amount. If you do not have saving account in bank where your ppf account is .Is there any restriction in making RTGS by bank. Or is that ppf transfer is not allowed in ppf account. Please clarify if somebody know about it. Today a bank has deducted Rs 8900/- for the finall amount was 11 lakhs, and also same amount for 22 lakh in my broths account. Is tthere any fixed amount bank is eligible to deduct as allowed by RBI rules?

After the PPF account has been in operation for 15 years, it can be extended for a duration of five years at a time. There is no limit, extensions can be taken any number of times.

If you close the account and open another fresh PPF account , you have access to 100% of your account balance, while extending the same account for a block of five years give you access to only 60% of your account balance at that time. This means that a large amount of money gets blocked for five years. Starting a fresh account gives you the opportunity to decide the amount you want to invest with the entire maturity amount at your disposal. This is an important factor keeping in mind the recent interest rate cut.

No only 60% funds can be withdraw
