I got a fake phone call from “RBI” and I recorded the audio !

I got a fraud call recently and I was able to record it.

The person at the other end was posing as RBI officer and said that because I have not linked my Adhaar card with my bank account, they are getting closed and if I want to save them from not getting blocked, I will to do some verification on the phone call.

Watch the video below which as my recording!

Never reveal your critical information on a phone call

Never share the following things ever on a phone call with anyone

  • Account Number
  • Debit Card Number
  • Expiry Date
  • CVV number

If you listen to the audio, you will realize that the person on the other side many times told me that the CVV number and account number is my personal information should not be shared with anyone. They do this to give a feeling that we can trust them and they are really some official people.

However, these people do not realize that their way of speaking and the language is such that it’s hard to believe that they are really some authorized person.

Please share if you have ever got any fraud call like this?

My father got a similar call after demonitisation .
He fell for it and almost gave all info expect CVV. AS HE WAS UNABLE TO HEAR THE OTHER PERSON PROPERLY (Poor pronunciation)
then suddenly my Mother realised it was a fake call n disconnected the call.
They also called the bank hotline number and blocked their card as he gave away a lot of information about the card.
That account was their primary account
I have earlier warned my mother about such calls and never entertain such people.
I told her to give only one answer to such people. Bank Branch is in front of my house n I will personally go there to talk thanks for your call n disconnect the call.

IMHO you should go ahead and report it. We all have got such kind of calls at least once. But since you are running such a nice blog and have written so many books. You should take the lead on this front as well and this could be another way of you helping other and leading to formation of such an organization or initiative to catch such fraudsters.

How dare the fraudster calls the founder of Jagoinvestor. Reminds me of burglar planned to loot police station unknowingly.

I recieved a similar phone call twice from an unknown person enquiring about insurance policy details.
Needless to say, these are happening quite frequently now-a-days.

What do you plan to do with this recording? Is there a common organization to report such calls via online route?

…However, it is also important to note that even if they DO sound like a professional/official/high ranking person, even then the personal details as mentioned above should NOT be shared with them over telephone under any circumstance.
