Business Bhaskar Copied my GFactor Concept without permission

Some days back I had written about GFactor concept for choosing a Financial Product based on 4 factors and formulating it in mathematics , Recently one of the writers for Business Bhaskar has copied the original idea of GFactor and republished it with same name “GFactor” and all the other names like “Trap Factor”, “R/R Factor” etc, without any permission from me .

This is not a general republishing of a general concept like SIP or Life Insurance that one can just change the wording’s and rewrite the same concept . It’s just the translation of the original idea and hence copyright violation. I have mailed the editor of the newspaper to look at it . The article was published in the online edition (Link) as well as print media (Newspaper Link) .

Update Jun 1 , 2010 :ย  Business Bhaskar has resolved this issue with me and apolosized to me for whatever happened, they will republish the article with due credit to me .

Comments , please share your views on this issue ? How appropriate is it to copy content and translate it without permission ?

Hi Manish,

Its sad to see Business Bhaskar do this… In the past, they have carried my articles – but always with my name as the writer (example:

I am glad this issue has been resolved… And congrats for being offered more print articles!

It is too bad to see people start copying the articles in an unintellectual way.

I think Indian Cyber Law doesn’t protect us from plagiarism since they don’t have any database of content to begin with. If they do; it would make sense for you to register your content with them and if such incidents are noticed; you can sue these folks in the law of court.

I remember Mr. Pavan Duggal being very active in giving a shpae to Indian Cyber Law back then in year 2000 and then coming up with amendments in 2008; might be worthwhile to get in touch with him to get his perspective and see what preventive measures can be taken for future. His personal website URL is http://pavanduggal.net

Manish Ji

You are becoming famous. It is a good news. Whatever Business Bhaskar did it is just a heinous crime. Unfortunately copyright act is not applicable to the information available on net.

But, this is awesome that your knowledge is spreading. Though they do not use your name, but still you know that G-Factor was your factor.

Das

Dear Manish, at the end of the article (online edition of Business Bhaskar, link from ur post), there is an interesting thing I noticed.

The Author (The hindi Translator), Navneet Dhavan is a certified financial planner.

If this is true, it’s a serious breach of ethics by a CFP as per FPSB India Guidelines.

I ‘ll ask u to report the matter to FPSB India.

thanks

Ashal

Manish,

An apology is the least they can do. But what other actions have they taken?
The person who has copied your article seems to be a CFP certificant, is someone at FPSB India informed about this unethical behavior?

Copycat is not rare but apologies are fairly rare. Congrats. Did you ask them why they copied it in the first place, it doesn’t looks like an accidental error.
This new logo is nice.

Ooops! Stupid on their part, indeed. While I liberally use others write-ups in my own blog posts – both to focus on the content and to give my own counter-views or comments on the contents, I always give the original link so that there is no question of even unintended plagiarism. After all, the idea is to ensure that the content gets read and not to publicise oneself. Nath

Manish,

To copy something is still the best form of flattery. The poor chap may be not in position to clap for you but I would hate to see him wear your dancng shoes.

Did I read the apologies coming – so what, to move on with these on hold is no better for anybody.

This is the kind of bullshit that makes your blood boil. Hope the matter will be looked into by the editor and suitable action taken. I think you should talk to someone in the press and get this news printed.

Dont worry Manish, all your readers are with you.

Manish,

I have mixed reactions on this… Your article was so good that even media copied it directly just with some transalation.. that should be taken positively.. but yea at the same time you did not get a single credit for it by them is really sad… we will try to communicate to as many as we can.. Hope you must have spoken directly to DB on this… Do keep us posted !

All the best !

[…] However, Dainik Bhaskar has gone a step ahead and copied an entire article by Manish Chauhan of JagoInvestor and put it up on their website without any attribution. The credits has been given to a certain Navneet Dhawan whose profile says: โ€œWriter, Certified Financial Planner and Financial Advisor”. More details here: […]

Hi Manish,

Copying simple written article itself offensive in the online world. Every one is against the plagiarism and it must be punished severely. That too copying your new idea (because you have developed your own idea and named it as G Factor. It is not just copying the content) must take very seriously. Have you contacted the Google about the stolen content. Also there are many forums you can report these issues. In some cases, if it is proven, Google will drop their pages from search engine. As you told, we have to show the power of online world.

I could not read it from Business Bhaskar, because I don’t know Hindi ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks,
Krishna
