ON1) Is there a maximum limit to PPF account extension ? My account has completed 25 years.
2) If the extension was not taken, will I get interest after completion of 25 years ?

Initially 15 years, extend in block of 5 years
But, what is the normal tenure of the PPF a/c? 15 yrs or more?
Regards,
Arup
Dear Arup, the normal tenure of a PPF account is 15Y. After completion of the intial 15Y, you have the option to renew the existing account for another block of 5Y & you may keep renewing every time for next block of 5Y till you so desire.
Thanks

One of the clause in the Rules says, one can extend the account even without making contribution. But in that case, one has to make application saying so. One would get interest after maturity only if the application for extension is given and not otherwise…
Thanks guys. I haven’t extended my account for last 1 year. That means I have lost interest of full 1 year 🙁
Dear Anshul, Please opt for another extension for a block of 5Y if not opted already. You can extend any no. of time till you desire so. Each extension ‘ll be for 5Y. In case of interest, the routine interest rate ‘ll be paid till the account is live i.e. within those 5Y block. After that, the interest ‘ll not be credited.
thanks
Ashal
I don’t think there is any limit to PPF account extension, but the only criteria is it can be extended only for a tenor of 5 years. So if you want extension of say 2 or 3 or 7 or 8 years, it’s not possible. As for second question, I think no interest is payable on the balance on maturity, though no such clause can be found in the notification by Govt here http://www.indiapost.gov.in/POSBActs/PPFRules1968.pdf
