IT Returns Status Query

POSTED BY Nitin Avula ON August 29, 2013 2:44 pm COMMENTS (4)

I posted my ITR-V copy to the Income Tax office in Banglore after e-filling the tax returns from the income tax site.

Today I got a response mail from the IT office and when I login into the site to check the status, it shows as “ITR Transferred out of CPC to Jurisdiction Assessing Officer in Incometax office”.

What does it mean? As per me, the tax returns was without any error.

  1. Dear Nitin, in case your ITR is selected for scrutiny, you ‘ll get the notice from Income Tax to represent your case to your local assessing officer.

    Thanks

    Hi,

So if my return is picked up for scrutiny or if there is any error/ problem in my returns, will the IT department contact me? Or, do I need to contact the local IT office for clarification?

    Cheers,
    Nitin

There may be a possibility of some mismatch, for example mismatch in TAN number / challan / amount etc in what you have filed and what is available with CPC.

I also got the same message for last to last year and realised that I had mentioned a wrong TAN for my employer.

it means your return has been picked up for further scrutiny and you can expect request for further documents from IT office. A fraction of the returns are picked up for further scrutiny based on criteria which changes every year.
