How to calculate annual return on an SIP investment ?

when one invests in a SIP say for 60 months.  this would include fixed monthly investment but varied no of units at varied prices.  at maturity or in between if one wants to withdraw or discontinue then how to calculate annual rate of interest that your investment is generating.

    use ‘xirr’ function in excel.
