6 months back I had 30+ funds and now I have 12 funds and I cannot, actually not willing πŸ™‚ to reduce further. Many are advicing to have just 4-5 or 6-8 funds, but honestly how many do you have.

Please do not mention the name of the funds here.

    Friends,

I have 11 funds spread across 3 fund house. I have regular SIP in each of these 11 funds

    3 large cap
    3 mid cap
    1 small cap
    2 index
    2 sectoral

My view for selecting funds would be to check quality stocks hold and sector exposure by the fund apart from the rating given by XYZ website. Ratings are always based on past history and future will not be necessarily based on past.

As mentioned in the topic heading, Honestly I hold only 4 MFs. I will continue to SIP and DIP (no full form for this) in this funds.

Jut would like to add to my earlier post.

These 12 funds are spread across IDFC, DSPBR, HDFC, Reliance, Fidelity, Franklin and Benchmark. I am also little skeptical about these fund houses. Of course SEBI is watching etc. etc. but I don’t.

Not a bad thing to diversify across fund houses. If you can manage 10 funds, it is fine. Same with 5 funds. Each fund in your portfolio should be because of a definite purpose. It is very logical to have 25% in midcap and spread across 2 different “similar” funds.

    I have
2 Equity Large and Mid Cap
    2 Equity Multicap
    2 Balanced
2 Equity Mid and Small Cap
    2 MIP
    1 Index
    1 Liquid

All of them are 5*/4* rated. Liquid fund will be closed shortly and MIP is just there because I closed few other funds earlier and moved the funds to MIP. Remaining funds are in SIP.

In my case you are right, great funds and my mind is not allowing me to remove. 6 months back I did not have any strategy and I had almost all funds (30+) in my basket πŸ™‚ now I pat myself that I reduced it to 12.

For example Small and Mid cap category, earlier I had IDFC Pre Plan A, ICICI Pru Discovery and Sundaram Select Midcap. Recently somehow I get rid of Sundaram but not other two. But I keep the small & mid exposure to 20 to 25%. Large Equity 60%.

    Appreciate any comments.

    Regards
    Dominic

Lets say world ends and you loose all your funds and your portfolio has 0 funds , then again you have to choose some funds .

Will all the 12 funds make it to the list as it is ? Or there would be a difference , what strategy would you follow to buy funds ?

Just want to make sure if you are not able to get rid of some more funds in your portfolio and bring it down to 5-6 OR its your mind which tells you “even this one is great fund !” every time you want to remove that fund !

I only hold 6 Funds in My portfolio :)…

1 Large and Mid cap oriented
    3 ELSS
1 Mid and Small Cap oriented
    1 Diversified

I would like to add one Large cap oriented fund with more allocation, but just waiting for some more time to restructure it.
