ONI held an EPF account while working with an IT company in New Delhi. After I left their employment, I put in an request to get the money transferred to my then current employer through a EPF consultant. However, the EPF consultant stopped coming to my office and I also did not receive from EPF office., so I assumed that he never submitted the transfer form.
Later I a put in an request to withdraw the money. This request was rejected, but I never got a rejection letter. Later, when EPF online transfer portal was introduced, I tried to transfer the amount to my current employer EPF account and the request was again rejected. Again, I did not get a rejection letter.
Then I filed a RTI query to know the rejection reason. I was told in reply that the money has been transferred to account DL/X7XXX/XXX6. However my correct number is DL/X4XXX/XXX8. Clearly the amount has been transferred to the wrong account.
What are the next steps I can take to get this mistake rectified?

Dear Vivek, please lodge a written complaint with the concerned EPFO or better claim the copy of transfer request originally submitted by you under an RTI application. Check the account number there in your transfer application.

I am not sure if it is a case of forgery. My first guess is that it looks like a clerical error while entering data in the system since 7 can be easily confused with 4 and 6 with 8.
