Can house rent paid qualify for income tax exemption under 80GG?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to know a little more about section 80GG and whether I can claim it or not. I read a few articles on it but now am more confused than ever! Kindly enlighten me.

I pay a rent of Rs.6000 per month in Belgaum, and I do not have any receipts or agreement to prove it.
My Total salary is Rs.4,80,000 per year, out of which my Basic is Rs.150,000, and my HRA is Rs.12,000.

Please guide me on my eligibility to claim under this section and how much can I claim.

Thanks,

Sunnydoc

  2. Yes you can claim the house rent paid even if you do not have HRA component , see this http://jagoinvestor.dev.diginnovators.site/2011/01/income-tax-saving-tips-video.html

But the point is if you do not have any reciept , then how do you prove this point that you paid it ? I mean you might really be joking and lying ? Right ? Anyone can just say that he has been paying the rent for X amount . Unless you do not have documents to support , how can you authenticate it ?

Think from the tax department point of view . You will look like a fraud to them
