Can a NRI who is Obese get a Term Insurance in India ?

Hi Folks,

I would like to get some information regarding term insurance policy for a obese person (myself). I am an NRI, will be visiting india during August 2014. I was wondering if the insurance companies will accept my application. I’m 34, my BMI categorize me as classII obese, I have no problems so far. I dont smoke or drink. I would like to apply for a 1cr cover. I am willing to go for medicals.

Will I get an approval? your answers will help me in great deal.

    Dear Financedan, what anybody can do to clear your fear? Why are you not taking steps to reduce your weight? Please check with Edelwies Tokio also for term plan.

    Hi Ashalanshu,

    I will be entitled to get a term insurance only after completing 2 years of stay here, so Im looking for something back in India to support my family if in case. I have called the Bjaj Allianz call centre, they said they can provide a Term insurance if I visit india and ready to undergo medical examination. My worry is that they don’t know I’m obese and what if the application gets rejected only because of this.

    Dear Finah, even if had you not been obese, not many Indian insurers ‘ll provide you term cover being NRI. It’s in your own interest to purchase the cover in your current country you are residing in.
