ONPlease can you let me know what is the best mutual fund for a goal that is 5 years away. I understand equity funds might not perform well for such a short term. I was looking at a hybrid category with debt orientation. Is ICICI Pru Childcare – Study Plan a good one?
Goal can be away at 4 years also – not less and not greater than 6 years. Hence i did not want a pure debt or a hybrid-equity fund. Am i correct in my understanding of the funds?

I would keep 50% in pure FD (in case of lump sum) or in RD (for systematic investment) and rest 50% in balanced fund (ICICI pru Balanced/ ICICI pru Eqty Volatality/ HDFC balanced/ SBI magnum balanced ) etc.
Dear Hema, why do you not want to opt for pure debt fund? Do you want to invest regularly (SIP) ot ‘ll it be a lump sum investment?
thanks
Ashal
Hello Hema,
If we find the historical data of various MFs, we can see that there are many funds which have given good returns in 5 years. However, past performance is not the ticket to future.
5 years is relatively short term and my opinion would be to stick with debt instruments like 5 year FD or RD or some other debt instruments.
This is just my opinion and others can probably guide you more accurately.
