Your mails have been very helpful for my future planning and investment from last few months. I have learnt many things. Currently I am thinking to buy LIC’s e-term policy through online. Can you please tell me is there any physical test required for it. Is it safe ?

Hi,
Recently I purchased the LIC online term insurance and following is my experience.
After I filled all the details online (sum assured 50lacs), withing couple of days I got phone call, email as well as SMS about medical test at my nearest diagnostic center. I took blood test, urine test, ECG and physical checkup. During that test, I was told to submit other required documents like income proof, address proof, signed application form and ID proof. Diagnostic center told me that, they will directly send the report to LIC (actually TPA which LIC has appointed). Within couple of days I got another email that, my case requires one more test that is stress test (treadmill test). I was bit surprised and thought of something must have reported negatively during my first test.
I went thru treadmill test and over there I was told that, generally LIC is asking extra treadmill test for 50 lacs and above. Anyways, I thought of providing stress test is a good test see my fitness also. Informally doctor who took my treadmill test told me that everything is just fine after seeing the treadmill graphs.
A week after this test, I got SMS and email, that my application is converted into a policy. After ending an email, I was told that, actual policy document will be sent to my home address. Yesterday I got the original policy document.
Hope this helps.
Thanks a ton Mr. Kulkarni. Your post is really helpful.
Thank you so much for the info.
Can you please let me know how much did they charge for all the tests.
Ajay – Thanks a ton for your comment. Actually I am going to buy a LIC e-term policy of Rs. 25,00,000.00 sum assured and I smoke. Is there any physical test required to buy this online policy? Buying online policy or to buy it from an agent which you suggest ? Please tell me.
Anindya – The medical test depends various factors like the sum assured, current medical conditions, current lifestyle, income, age etc. LIC will decide based on these factors and it is internal to them.
Is it safe to go with LIC ? People (including me) think it would be. Do you think your nominee will get the sum assured when you aren’t around ? Depends on how honest are you when filling the form.
If someone smoke and fills the form as non-smoker and based on various factors LIC decides not to conduct a medical test, and the person dies of some smoking related ailment (or may be otherwise also), then LIC may decide not to payout because the person lied on the application form.

Anindya – If there is a medical test then LIC will let you know. Considering that you smoke I feel they would ask to get one done whether it is online or offline. Again like I mentioned it will based on various factors as decided by LIC.
Like Hemanth mentioned above, it would be good if you go through the test and make it clear that they know about your health upfront. Remember you will not be there to claim the money and as I read somewhere on this forum “only ghosts and nominees can review a term plan” 😉
Good luck and congrats on taking this step towards protecting your family !
It is always better to take a medical test (though it is not mandatory) at the time of buying any insurance which makes clear that there is nothing to hide from you.

Offline plan is costly compared to online term plan.
