ONnow a days every tom, dick, and harry is getting a platinum / titunium credit card. i am looking for a credit card which stands apart and evokes social image / prestige. at the same time it should be affordable also.
1. is the visa signature card considered more expensive ( to get one ) / elite than titunium in the hierarchy of cards ( signature > titunium > platinum )?
2. all those banks ( sbi, hdfc, icici…i don’t know the complete list ) offering visa signature – which one of them has got the most liberal / least stringent earning criteria? in other words, what should be the minimum annual income?
3. is mastercard world card a good alternative ( for the purpose of social image boosting ) / considered as more elite than titunium ones? if so, what should be the minimum annual income?
4. is it a good idea to upgrade gradually ( to reduce chances of rejection )? i hold a gold credit card at present. shall i go from gold to platinum to titunium to…??
i am surprised that hdfc wants the visa signature / mastercard world card holder to spend 50,000 rupees annually to waive the annual membership charges. 0.5 lakh being such a small amount i am guessing that hdfc won’t ask for high annual income – is it so? how much could it be??
thanks in advance.

Correction:
For example if you spend around 50 lakhs you can accrue enough points to earn a free return trip from Mumbai to Los Angles in Singapore Airlines first class suite (ticket cost around 4.9 Lakhs)
You should really try AMEX Platinum, which is one single card considered truly elite card around the world – only caveat is it comes with Rs.50,000 but tons of benefits details here https://www.americanexpressindia.co.in/platinum.aspx
If you are a high roller you should be able to make up annual fee from the membership rewards. For example if you spend around 5 lakhs you can accrue enough points to earn a free return trip from Mumbai to Los Angles in Singapore Airlines first class suite (ticket cost around 4.9 Lakhs)
It is not a credit card but charge card means you cannot carry balance and need to pay entire balance off every month.
Dear Rajarshi,
This is interesting thought, I never thought about having a credit card for the purpose of image boosting. I have been using my credit card just to make my life easy while shopping, online purchases, dining, payments, tickets booking, petrol etc.
Surprisingly none of the guys to whom I gave my card to swipe for payments is even aware of what social image I have with those cards be it, Sliver / gold / titanium / platinum or whatsoever.

Dear Rajarshi, what’s there you can not do with your existing Gold card?
Thanks
