How to get Medical insurance after diagnosed with Cancer ?

POSTED BY DArora ON October 15, 2014 11:14 am COMMENTS (4)

I am single and 28 years old. I was diagnosed with Blood cancer at the age of 25. I took chemotherapy and had Bone Marrow transplant in 2012 and now I am fully cured. At that time I was in USA and due to lack of knowledge I didn’t took any health insurance in India. Which caused very high penalty to me. And i had to pay the whole treatment from my pocket only.

Now, I would like to take some medical insurance to secure my future. But almost all Insurance companies are denying to give insurance as cancer comes under major disease and they are not covering it. Also, I don’t want to lie them or hide this truth that I was a cancer patient.

Can you please suggest the best medical insurance plan/company.

Thanks!

Try switching jobs to another employer who might be able to cover it. In the process, you might end up with better salary too.

    Hi Santy,

Thanks for your reply. The insurance through my employer is already there but the insurance amount is not sufficient for me. The Sum insured amount is Rs 2 Lakh only.

Anyways, I am paying for my mistake.

    Thanks!

Sorry to hear your story. The Insurance companies are usually unwilling to cover cancer patients due to high risk for their money.

The only decent option seems to be:ICICI Cancer Care Plus. However not sure if they cover if you are already diagonised with it.

The other option is to go thru your employer – if you are working in govt. job, it is most likely that almost all of your treatment will be taken care by Govt. Some of the private sector players will also cover it but to limited extent.

Be smart and choose an employer who might be able to cover this!
