Hi,
I have taken the NSC from Mumbai, Now i am in Hyderabad. I have went to several post offices in Hyderabad to en-cash the NSC but unfortunately i am unable to do it. They were not able to see the number. It was matured on 2015 january. I am getting a reply from the post offices in hyderabad(Mehdi patnam,Koti,Manikonda) saying that they are unable to retrieve my NSC. I have called twice to the thane post office but they just given the SOL Id . What will be best i can do ? Do i need to go to thane to withdraw it? Please give me any suggestions….
Hi harimuppa
I suggest that you now take the RTI route. You can file the RTI and ask your queries to them. THey are bound to reply you on your queries.
Its a bit long cut, but works well

One more thing manish,
What kind help we can get from RTI side I didn’t understand how come they will help with my NSC Transfer or encashment. What kind of query we can raise through RTI. It looks like the issue is with BALKUM post office…..Please clarify sorry forgive my ignorance..
Thanks
Hari
RTI is just to get information. You can ask queries for which you are not getting proper answers. Thats aall . So you can ask for process, where to contact , etc etc
Hi
My Brother has invested my money in NSC in his name and I have the certificates is it possible to en cash it with out involving him on maturity
Definately not . Its on his name, you have no role on this.
Hi I was told to redeem my NSC, I need to open saving account with post office. Is it mandatory??
Rgds
Kavita
Yes Mrs. Kapoor
No. It is not mandatory. I have enquired the post office and they said that “If you have SB account, the money will be transferred to it else a cheque will be given”
It has become simple nowadays, If you are lucky enough that the Post Office from which you initially purchased NSC has become CBS (Centralized Banking Services) then you can walk into any of the CBS Post Office in your current city and raise a request. The Post Offices are connected centrally and they can view the details in the computer.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing that GauravSrivastava
Hi Manish,

To Post office . Because NSC is a post office product !
I bought NSC from Delhi and Now I am staying in Mumbai. I applied for encasement of the NSC in the Local Post Office. It has completed four month till they sent my letter to the parent post office from where NSC was issued for verification. No reply has been received till date. Please advice what should I do now.

Thank You for Advice.
What about if money en cashed from same post office but after 1 or 2 months of maturity. Can i get the interest of 1 or 2 month in addition of maturity amount ?
Yes, they will calculate the maturity amount and include the interest for those two months as well.
In my experience, if the post office has a bank account attached to them, they will issue a check immediately (experienced this is Hyderabad, Sainikpuri). However, if the PO does not have a bank account, they will indent it and send it over to the PO that does have this account. The process takes approximately 3 days as per the teller. I still haven’t got the check or any intimation, but i will wait and watch.
wow .. great things to learn from readers . Didnt knew all this . Thanks to all for sharing all information 🙂
Manish
Hi Ritesh,
Best way is to approach local Post master and submit the original NSCs and application.
Even in Bangalore it takes 15 days if you dont approach the Post office were NSC was issued. I have faced the problem personally.
Regards
Atul
Dear Ritesh, If the maturity is already over, the usual time to encash NSC from non-issuing PO ‘ll be 1-1.5 Months.
In case, the maturity is away some months, you may contact your local PO to transfer your NSC record from Old PO to your new PO. This ‘ll be done within normal 1-1.5M time. Now after transfer of NSC to new PO. you ‘ll be able to encash these immediately.
Thanks
Ashal
Additional info:
If you go to same office from where you purchased NSC, then they will pay you maturity amount immediately.
But if you approach some other post office, then they will take their own time, say 1 month.
Other readers, please share if you have any first hand experience.
Anand – I checked with the local post office post master and she said that they will take a month’s time to get the money if NSC is issued in another PO.
I am in the same boat.
I was told that I can approach any post office with the NSC certificate after maturity and they will give me money.
Need to verify this fact, however.
