Car Insurance

I am thinking of buying a car and I noticed that the insurance amount in many cases that is loaded on by the dealership is very high (maybe they get their own cut). As an example, the insurance amount for one of the cars I was looking at was around Rs. 19,000 whereas I checked that if you buy online from (example) Bajaj Allianz, it came to around Rs. 13,000. That’s a full Rs. 6,000 less!

Does anyone have an experience of telling the dealer that you will buy your own car insurance and, despite a disappointed car dealer, saved a lot of money in the process? Is the process straightforward or are there major hurdles?

From my understanding, the Bajaj Allianz policy could be just purchased online, like a term insurance.

Manish, if the responses are positive, this could be an addition to the “how to save money” ways that you were researching some time back.

Thanks,
Ram.
