Can Mutual Fund investors invest in RGESS and claim tax benefit ?

Hi

I have invested in Mutual Funds in this FY; not in stocks. Can I invest through Rajiv Gandhi Equity Savings Scheme (RGESS). I dont hold a demat account. The confusion is whether existing MF investors are eligible or not.
