Will my Public Provident Fund continue to earn interest after maturity ?

POSTED BY gurbaksh ON July 23, 2014 6:39 pm COMMENTS (3)

My PPF account matured on 31st March 2014. I wish to continue without further contribution. Wish to know :

  1. Will this account continue to earn interest at the same rate as any other running PPF account?
  2. How many times can I withdraw in a financial year?
  3.  Will I have the option to exit anytime I wish to?

Thank-you.

  1. Anand says:

Sorry, answer to 3 above applies if we continue with contribution.

In case the account is extended without contribution, any amount can be withdrawn without restrictions. However, only one withdrawal is allowed per year.

  2. Anand says:

    1. Yes, it will continue to earn interest.

    2. You can withdraw only once in one financial year.

    3. No option to fully exit. You can withdraw only 60% of maturity amount in the next 5 years.

If the PPF account is matured, you can extend it to another 5 years (after that another 5 years, another 5 years and so on) if you wish…..

Interest will be earned at the same rate….. The limit will also be the same as the normal PPF acoount….

2, 3 points… I think you cannot…. I am not sure on these …. please check with bank on this….
