Will I get a Study loan with a active home loan on my name ?

POSTED BY Raja Roy ON March 14, 2014 8:46 am COMMENTS (2)

Hi,

I am 25 and recently purchased a property in Kolkata for which I took a home loan from SBI. The loan is owned jointly by me and my mother but I pay the EMIs of roughly 33,000. I have a monthly net salary of 90,000 and my mother 28,000.

I am planning to go abroad for further studies and would need a study loan of around 10 – 15,00,000. Meanwhile while I am away studying, my mother will pay the EMIs. Will there be any problem for me in getting a study loan given that I already have a home loan in my name?

Thanks!

Dear Raja, as income for you ‘ll stop and only incom in the house ‘ll be from mother and the EMI for home loan alone is more than her income, I doubt that any bank ‘ll give the education loan in such situation. Still you should talk directly to your home loan bank or mother’s salary bank.

    Thanks

    Dear Raja,

Your education loan would be sanctioned based on your income, job stability, collateral and past credit behaviour (i.e.credit report and score).

Ideally, your current home loan should not impact the approval of your education loan provided you have been making timely repayments against it. The bank would also consider your existing fixed obligation (EMI) towards this home loan while calculating the loan amount to be sanctioned for your education loan.
