Where should I invest the cash gifts got relative on baby birth for long term ?

Hi,

I am blessed with the male baby recently and i would like to invest (long term – around 18 years / 20 years) a amount of rs 10000 which is given for my baby as a cash gift by relatives.

Shall I deposit the amount into FD or Mutual fund? or anything else? pls let me know your thoughts on this?
