What is Tax implications for delayed salary received in other Financial year ?

Hi all,

My wife was on a temporary govt job for 2 years from 2010 to 2012. But even after her tenure got over she did not receive full payment. She received part of it in FY13-14 and remaining 3.5L just 2 weeks back. But now she is also working in other office and having about 4L annual income in current FY.

My question is whether she needs to pay tax on 7.5L for FY14-15, or there are some rules which allows to attribute 3.5L in the year it was suppose to be received. Are there some special clauses which allow this, since govt bodies were involved in this and they delayed the payment.

If she can get the benefit for this, please let me know what paperwork etc is needed.

Thanks a lot for your time and suggestion.

Regards,
Ashish, Mumbai
