Tax benifit on MF loss

POSTED BY Nayandeep Saha ON October 3, 2011 6:46 pm COMMENTS (3)

I have recently sold out my Kotak Indoworld Infrastructure fund that I have been holding since Jan-2008 at some loss. Can I claim any tax benifit on that loss I incurred.

And I am about to start an SIP in HDFC Balanced Fund -Growth. This is the only balanced fund that I have in my portfolio. All others are fully equity based. Can anyone tell me how good or bad this HDFC fund is this. Or if there is any other alternative.

Thanks

HDFC Prudence has a much better record and performance than HDFC Balanced, though both have similar mandates.

No you cant claim the loss .. Only short term capital losses are allowed to set off against the gians in case of Equity . the reasons is that long term capital gians are tax free .

Also HDFC Balanced fund is a good fund with good long term performance .. keep investing .. look at it at some good interval . not everyday !
