Suggestions for Family Health Insurance Plan

Dear Manish / Forum Members

I am a 25 year old unmarried working professional and I intend to buy a family floater health insurance plan that includes me and my parents.

But the catch is that although I am a healthy non-smoking individual, both my parents are chronic patients of hypertension & diabetes. My mother & father are 60 & 62 years old respectively.In addition, my mother has undergone a kidney transplant surgery back in 2004 & she has to take immuno-suppressive drugs life-long.

However, I would like to mention that both of them are doctors & thus ensure that they are not exposed to any kind of vulnerability health wise, taking their medications regularly & not indulging in any bad habits like smoking etc.

I want to ask that would it be feasible & possible to cover them and me in a single family floater health insurance plan? Can you suggest any good options I can have a look at? Also, please guide me whether it would be suitable to take a single family floater plan for all of us or a separate old age plan for my parents?

Looking forward to the worthy guidance of Manish & Forum members here.

Thanks a lot!

  2. Dear Tapas, why are you purchasing a floater policy as of now? Why not one for yourself & one for your parents.

    thanks

    Since both of your parents are senior citizens and have diabetes and hypertension, hence if you take a single family floater policy, premium will be very high. Hence, I will suggest you to take individual policies. For your parents, you can see the features of Red Carpet policy of Star Health Insurance. I am quoting its features as given in website:
    -> For people aged between 60 and 75 years
    -> Guaranteed renewals beyond 75 years
    -> No pre-insurance medical test required
    ->Treatment at network hospitals only
    -> All pre-existing diseases are covered from first year, except those for which treatment or advice was recommended by or received during the immediately preceding 12 months from the date of proposal
    -> Disease for which treatment or advice was recommended by or received during the immediately preceding 12 months from the date of proposal will be covered from second year onwards .

    For yourself, you can consider Apollo Munich Easy Health or any other insurance company.

    You can check with different companies Max Bupa, Bajaj, etc. and tell them everything and try to get the quote from them. Based on that quote and reputation you can decide.
