Should I invest in Equity or Gold ?

Hi Team,

First of all as always thanks for providing the wonderful information on this forum.

Myself is Sameer Goel age 33 yrs. Many times i have taken your suggestions in my financial life and at this time also i would require more.

I have a term insurance of 50 lacs. Already invested in PPF around 12000 annually  Invested 1000 Rs as a sip in each HDFC Prudence (G) and UTI opportunities fund from last two yrs. I have also 2 small lic policies and a RD account (Rs 1500).

From the new year itself, i want to start some more investment for Rs 1000 as sip for at least 15 years. The purpose is very simple for my daughter’s marriage who is currently 7 yrs old now.

Here i want to know whether i should move in equity or in any gold plane for this. Please suggest on this. If equity then in which fund or in gold then for which plan.

Regards,

Sameer Goel

Dear Sameer, please increase the SIP amount into HDFC Prudence itself. Later on as and when you can increase the amount, increase the mly amount.

    Thanks

Dear Sameer, do you think 1000 Rs. mly investment is enough for your d’ter’s wedding corpus, needed after 15-17 years from here onwards?

    Thanks
    Ashal

      Hi Ashal,

Yes i know that after 15 yrs the amount will not be enough for the marriage purpose.
But atleast if i would go with a good equity fund with atleast 15 yrs, then i think i will have a smart amount in my hand.

      Please suggest.

      Thanks,
      Sameer

I am not good at it, hence can not recommend it…but will give you once suggestion.

Instead of asking some unknown person (like me), why don’t you learn about how to select a good MF. I am sure it will take you less than a month to learn this, and you will get more realistic understanding of its risk/return.

    1. PPF works best if you utilize it fully (i.e invest Rs 1,00,000, for 15 years) it is guaranteed money….
    2. Buy 5- 10 Units of Goldbees in a year (for daughter)
    3. After exhausting these options, if you have left with some money, you can think of putting your money in equity market

I believe you can have small proportion of your portfolio in Gold (Goldman Sachs GOLDBEES)
