Section 80d – preventive health checkup

I had a query about the ‘Preventive Health checkup’ clause recently introduced under 80D.

Suppose I am not paying any Medicle Insurance premium for Self / Parents, and only want to claim exemption for Preventive Health checkup. So under ‘Preventive Health checkup’, are we allowed to claim Rs.5000 for self + 5000 for parents = Total 10,000. Or is it only Rs. 5000 (self + parents both included)?

    Vaibhav, You can claim Rs 5K for your family & your parents separately.
    1. Vaibhav claims Rs 5K u/s 80D in His IT return
    2. Parent Claim Rs 5K u/s 80D in ther IT return. so if they are paying Tax, then their Net Income will get reduced by rs 5K for Tax purpose
