Riders or General Insurance?

Riders like Accident policy / Critical Illness seem to be important while purchasing life insurance.
Also General Insurance companies like ICICI Lombard / HDFC Ergo provide same cover. Almost at same price.
What is preferable? Riders or general Insurance?

  1. Dear Tukar.bhankas, Please opt for plain policies from General insurers for Accident & Disability insurance as well as Critical illness.

The scope of coverage of riders available with life insurance policies is limited & one time affair where as for these Gen. ins. policies, one may claim N no. of times as & when claims happens.

    thanks

I would say go for a standalone policy that adding a rider. Riders are restrictive; you have to take them when you first buy the policy and are locked in through the term of the policy. Unlike standalone plans which you can buy when you require. On the cost front too standalone plans are better priced.
