Regarding online PPF account

POSTED BY Genoa ON May 17, 2013 3:43 pm COMMENTS (3)

Hello,

I have PPF account with Bank of Baroda since June 2000. They don’t offer net banking, mobile banking facility or even computerised pass book.

So, I’m thinking to switch to SBI or ICICI Bank, which offer online PPF facility.

So, what kind of facilities will I get?

1. Can I do partial withdrawal online?

2. Can I extend PPF account to another 5 years online?

3. Can I download SBI/ICICI mobile app and view PPF transactions?

Thanks

Bank of Baroda does offer netbanking atleast that’s what the website says
    Baroda Internet Banking
    So check with your branch.
As Ashal pointed out deposit from your existing SBI or ICICI or any other SB account’s netbanking using NEFT.

  2. Dear Genoa, let me try to answer your queries.

    1. Can I do partial withdrawal online?
No, to withdraw from PPF, you w’d have to visit the branch.

    2. Can I extend PPF account to another 5 years online?
No, you w’d have to contact your branch.

    3. Can I download SBI/ICICI mobile app and view PPF transactions?
If the PPF account is linked with your IMAP, it’s possible. Please confirm the same with ICICI or SBI people.

Regarding the deposit within your BOB PPF account, if it’s a CBS enabled account, you can deposit from your existing SBI or ICICI or any other SB account’s netbanking using NEFT.

    Thanks

    Hi Genoa,

Good idea to shift to ICICI or SBI with online transaction facility to deposit the amount. I have mine in ICICI.

Regarding rest of all your 3 questions I am not sure but even if they are not possible online all the 3 conditions are what you do not need on day to day basis – you may need them once in year or once in 5 years. So visiting branch once in few years is not a bad idea.

The key is you can deposit the cash online in your account using online banking + you can check the statement online (icici at least i know).

    Thanks,
    Gaurav
