Proof Submission for Filing online returns for refund

Hello
I failed to submit the proof of my LIC policy (under Section 80C) on time which resulted in additional tax.
Am planning to submit the returns online for this AY including this value which I can.
However my question is how can I submit the original proof for claiming this Tax exemption? Is it necessary to submit the proof?
Or it would be better if I could submit the returns directly at the IT office concerning my Ward/Circle?
Kindly help me understand.
