Pre-existing Diseases and Other Exclusion For First Two Years

Hi there!

I have following queries –

  1. Does Diabetes become a pre-existing disease after 48 months of continuous health cover?
  2. My parents hold a family floater policy (Family Optima) with Star Health, now the policy says: “Any persons aged between 5 months and 65years, residing in India, can take this insurance” but last year my policy agent said to me that we can extend this policy one year until you father is 61. Recently, my father turned 61. But I don’t understand if a person can take this policy till 65 then how can upper age limit of policy renewal be 61. ?
Thanks,

    If you mean
“will diabetes be covered after 48 months of holding the policy?” Yes.

If you have held the policy for say 10 months and then diagonized as diabetic then the sum insured for those 10 months alone can be used for diabetic related hospitalization. If you increase sum insured later the extra amt may be used for diabetic related hospitalization only after 48 months!

Start Health website has sum restrictions for the 60-65 age group
    http://www.starhealth.in/health.php?healthid=16
If this is not applicable to your parent then they must renew.
If Star Healh refuses for whatever reason get them another policy for highest sum asap

  3. Dear Mogenie, please contact Star health to clarify the issue.

    thanks

    Ashal
