I am invested in 3 mutual funds as below and a RD for 5000/m each.

1.IDFC Premier Equity Fund – Plan A (G)

2.HDFC Equity Fund (G)

3.HDFC Index Fund – Sensex Plus Plan.

I just wanted to know if this is good mix for a 20 year period.I am planning to add one more SIP of 5k but not sure which one.I Don’t want to have more than 4. Can you advise something considering the correct balance. My Goal is basically a balanced wealth creation for my retirement.

Thanks Ashal..will change it to that way….I believe as of now I will go for both the active ones and monitor till at least 2-3 years.

  2. Dear Vinay, only 2 funds are enough for you. So IDFC Prem. Eq. + HDFC Eq. In case you want a combo of Active + passive investing. IDFC Index + HDFC Eq. should do the job for you.

Thanks Ramesh for pointing that out.Can you please advise any good index fund or is it ok for me to stay with this one.

    1. Ramesh says:

IDFC Nifty Index fund is the least expensive index fund. And since Index fund’s most important concern is that, it should be a good enough fund.

And it might be a much better idea for you to invest Directly with IDFC and HDFC for the above funds.

Thanks Ashal for such a prompt response.
I have selected these funds myself. My reasons are as below.
    1.IDFC Premier Equity Fund – Plan A (G) –> less expense ratio+past performance+small and mid cap exposure
2.HDFC Equity Fund (G)–>past performance+less expense ratio+large cap and mid cap exposure
    3.HDFC Index Fund – Sensex Plus Plan.–>indexing.

I am not sure if my idea (or even my research is all correct) but I want to keep it simple.
My Goal is to reach 4 Crore by the end of 25 years.
I can invest 5k more as of now and will think about increasing depending on future so want something that can complement all these in a good way.

    1. Ramesh says:

Sensex Plus is Not an Index Plan. Correct that out. It is a pseudo-index fund and is equivalent to an active fund.

  5. Dear Vinay, who selected these funds for you? You research yourself or somebody else done it for you? what was your reasons for these funds? Why do you want to add 1 more fund? Do you feel these 3 funds are not enough for your retirement goal?

    Please answer.
