Is inspection of the vehicle mandatory for renewing the car insurance ?

Hi All,

I have query related to car insurance, not sure if this is allowed here; if not entertained then please disregard my query.

I am due for my car insurance renewal and I have been checking things online to get a better idea on the renewal. After all the search, calls from different insurance companies, I am now having 2 queries to decide on a particular insurance.

1> Is inspection of the vehicle mandatory for renewing the insurance ? Representatives from Bharti AXA/ICICI/LnT/BajajAllianz/TataAIG, all told that this is necessary and someone from their end will come for a vehicle insurance. Infact, the LnT person said that as per the new IRDA rules inspection is mandatory, otherwise there will be problems during claim settlement. But, the CSR from PolicyBazaar.com said that inspection is not necessary and that he will issue the insurance immediately.

2> Also, the premium quoted by PolicyBazaar.com is approximately 1,500/- INR less than the premium quoted by any other direct insurance company. Why is there such a huge difference ? Is the insurance being given by PolicyBazaar.com reliable ? Although, I understand that PolicyBazaar is not from them, but through an insurance company.

Please somebody reply on this. (if at all motor insurance discussion is allowed in this forum).

Kind Regards – Ashwin

        Sorry Mr. Manish.

I saw in the tread people were discussing Third Party Insurance & Inspection issues. That prompted me to ask this question.

One can renew without inspection as at the time of claim they get to know if the dent is old or new by experience.

    1. The renew happens anyways without inspection !

Only if you are shifting from one company to another, the inspection might happen !

If you are opting for the 0% depr. cover there is mandatory inspection before renewal. But, if you are just taking the third-party cover, I believe the inspection wouldn’t be required.

Good suggestion as always by Ashal. Hi Ahwin, if you looking for a direct insurance company then I would like to suggest you a new emerging general insurance company called Liberty Videocon. Since I have also opted for the same. You can check with them since they provide you hassle free inspection and their customer service is very friendly. They even have swift telephonic service for effective claims support on all holidays. Before making a final decision I would suggest you to check with them

As far as my knowledge is concern it is important to have inspection of vehicle for renewing car insurance. Usually inspector look after few things of your car before renewing your car insurance to make sure that car belongs to you, and all information provided in renewal for is correct to make claim process smooth for you.

    Hi Ashal,
    Thank you for your response.

    Hi Ashish,
    Thank you for your response.
My car had a claim last year, and so inspection makes sense. I was wondering why PolicyBazaar guy said inspection is not required. Also the huge difference in the quote from PolicyBazaar.com. Anyways, it makes every sense what Ashal has replied to me. Its better that I go to a direct insurance company.

Thank you very to both of you for your responses.
    Kind Regards,
    Ashwin

    Hi Ashwin,

In case you are renewing your policy with the same insurer and their is no claim in the last policy year, inspection is not mandatory. In case you have claimed in last policy year, they will do an inspection.

In case you are opting to renew from a new insurance company, inspection is mandatory and without inspection they will not issue the policy. You premium will be based on model, make year and present condition of the car, which may differ from the one shown on their online portals.

To be on a safer side, suggest you should go ahead with inspection and let the insurance company do that.

Dear Ashwin, Policybazaar is merely an agent here. Once your policy is issued, you ‘ll not get any help in case you need one in future for claim settlement. If you feel that you can handle the situation on your own in future, please opt for Policybazaar.

Else opt local agent or direct to insurer.

    Thanks

    Ashal
