Irregularities in Bangalore electricity bill?

Currently in B’lore and this is what I see on the electricity bill –

1) Pres. Rdg. : 11829

2) Prev. Rdg. : 11690

3) Consumption : 139

4) Fixed Charges (unit, rate, amount):

1.00     25.00     25.00

2.00     35.00     70.00

5) Energy Charges (unit, rate, amount):

30.00     2.50     75.00

70.00     3.70     259.00

39.00     4.85     189.15

6) Current Bill Amount: 651 (after adding some tax amounting to ~31)

Everything makes sense except the 4th one on the list. Looks like I may have been paying about Rs.95 extra that doesn’t seem to have any explanation.

I certainly plan to follow up with BESCOM to seek for an explanation, but do other B’loreans have this on their electricity bills? Any idea what it is all about?

One explanation was that this is some sort of a “caution deposit” that BESCOM can use in the event someone fails to pay their electric bills. That would sound an eyewash to me.

Thanks,

    Dear Vijay,

The point 4 is basically fixed charges for the load sanctioned to your apartment. It seems total load sanctioned to your apartment is 3 KW. For 1st KW it is fixed as Rs.25 and for next 4KW it is Rs.35 per KW.

My apartment has a sanctioned load of 5KW and I am paying Rs.165 every month.
