How soon can we start a PPF for a newborn?  Is there a prescribed age for it?  Also other kindly suggest other safe avenues of investment/insurance for an infant for securing its future.  Tx.

You can open a PPF for a newborn. But since he/she is a minor, you can only invest 70k total in your+his/her PPF account!

In my view, either you can use a safe/secure investment vehicle for your newborn OR secure his future by investing in equity funds.
Sadly, there is no option for a safe vehicle for securing the distant future.

i was looking at PPF as only a part of the portfolio given its EEE tax benefits. Anyways my question regarding age remains unanswered!

You can open a PPF account in your son’s name but you will have to be a guardian.
As for other investments, invest in good MF for a long period, you will good returns.

    1. I’m not able to understand why people wants to invest in such a safe option for such a long-term. Just imagine the future value of PPF maturity after adjusting inflation. Imagine the rising cost of education every year. Do you want your son laugh on that maturity amount? I may be harsh in my wordings but that is fact.

Invest in equity diversified mutual funds to secure your child future.

      Think again on your decision.

      Hope it will help you.
