Income Tax Returns for NRI

Hello,

At present I am working outside India since 1yr 4 months.

Is it required to file my returns in India.

I consulted one of CA he informed that its not required to file my returns.

Can some one let me know the clear picture on this part

    I have invested 4 SIP based mutual funds.so is there any point filing the returns?

    NRI are not required to file income tax return in India but if your income is above Rs 1.6 Lakh in India(through rental, interest etc) you need to file it.

    Secondly even if you don’t touch slab of Rs 1.6 Lakh but there are TDS deducted from any of your above mentioned income or in Mutual Fund investments(there is compulsory TDS in case of short term gain from equity/debt & even long term debt). In this case if you want refund of this TDS you need to file your returns.
