You do not need to open DMAT account to invest in any mutual fund. DMAT account is used to buy, sell, hold share/stock.
But obviously if you already have a DMAT account in like ICICIDirect, Sharekhan – you can use their service to invest in mutual fund’s regular plans, or can open an account with Fundsindia for that – excellent services with ZERO account opening change, annual charge etc.
But point to note – by this online brokers. or distributors you will be investing regular plan of a mutual fund, but if you go direct to the AMC (Fund houses like ICICI AMC for ICICI Prudential Focused Bluechip Equity Fund) then the you will be buying direct plans, where the expense ratio will be lower, that .5 to .7% difference in a year can make significant in long term. – Up to you.
SEBI has abolished entry load but investors have to pay exit load if they exit/ sell mutual fund between a predetermined times from the date of buying. Know about entry/exit load and expense ratio in http://www.behealthyinvestor.com/mutual-fund-basics-types-of-mutual-fund/

    Thanks

    1. Ravindra says:

should i have demat ac to open new fund
any entry and exit load is there for it

      1. Karthik says:

no entry load for any mutual funds in India.

exit load 1% if redeemed / switched before 1 year.

        No demat account is required.

Please read the SID of this fund before investing.
