How to diversify your investment portfolio?

POSTED BY Abhinav Priyadarshi ON March 8, 2015 10:11 am ONE COMMENT

Hi,

I am a beginner in investment, started my first job just 18 months back. Till now on name of investment I have invested some amount in PPF and rest in stock market (with equitymaster.com recommendation). Also, As emergency fund, I have amount approximately equal to 5 month of expenses in my savings account.

Now, I want to know more about the other available options and diversify my investment portfolio. So, what are different investment options available in market right now (especially for beginners)? How much percentage should I invest in each of them?

And, For the emergency fund, Should I keep them in saving account as it is or I should invest them somewhere as well?

Thanks

    Hi,

Classify the investment avenues in below categories:

    1. High Risk – Direct equity with not so know companies, Diversified Equity MF, Sector specific MF
    2. Moderate Risk – Balanced MF, Direct equity in Bluechip companies
    3. Low Risk – Debt MFs, Company FDs, Bonds
    4. No Risk – Bank FD, PPF, EPF, RD etc

Now depending upon your risk appetite (which should be high at this point in time), choose the options available in above categories
