How to buy corporate bonds?

POSTED BY CRY ON April 6, 2013 11:48 am COMMENTS (2)

I hear that 90% of corporate bonds issued in India are place privately. Which means it is a party where we as retail investors are not invited to. I am not talking about the bonds shown in F series on Bse or Bonds traded in CM in nse but the others reported on the corporate bond segment of BSE or WDM segment of NSE. Yes, I have done some window shopping. Are their any decent brokerages which help you buy them either in the primary or secondary market?

I also would like to know whether it is a good idea to invest in “ICICI Prudential Corporate Bond Fund”.
I invest around 12% of my salary in EPF which can never default. I wonder whether I can invest around 6% of my salary in SIP in “ICICI Prudential Corporate Bond Fund”. How much is credit risk to investment in this fund? I am aware that this fund has invested around 40% in AA rated corporate bond. I am planning to hold this invetment for around 10 years or more.
I am 33 year old salaried individual. I am married and have a kid. I already have amount equal to 12 months of expense in bank’s fixed deposit which I can liquidate in case of emergency.

  2. Dear CRY, indirect investing via MFs is the only way for retail investors.

    Thanks
