If your credit card accounts were closed before the first credit bureau – Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited was established in 2005, then this could be the reason that none of the account details are appearing on your credit report. However, if the accounts were closed post the establishment of CIBIL, then the details of your past account should appear on your credit report and needs to be updated.
A score of NA (Not available) or NH (No history) means that you do not have enough credit history to build your credit bureau score. A lending institution with a conservative risk appetite might look at it negatively whereas a lending institution with a aggressive risk appetite might approve your loan application.
We would suggest that you directly approach the bank you are planning to apply for a home loan and understand their eligibility criteria.
In India one cannot get free credit report. You need to shell out money.
You can get your credit report from three agencies (but most popular is CIBIL)
Credit Information Bureau (India) Ltd, or CIBIL,cibil.com
Equifax Credit Information Services Pvt. Ltd and, eqifax – india
Experian Credit Information Co. of India Pvt. Ltd. experian-india
You will have to pay Rs. 470 for a credit report and score or Rs.154 for only a report. In India, the concept of at least one free credit bureau report in a year is still not institutionalized.
Having said which, if you have applied to any credit institutions for a loan you can ask for the copy of your credit report under The Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act, 2005 – CICRA.
Dear Vinay, as you are NRI and do not hold any credit history, it should not crearte any problem for your loan application.
Thanks
Ashal
