Dear Sir

I recently visited India/Ahmadabad and had to pay in  Indian Rupees for Custom Duty.

I approched m/s TRAVELEX counter (the only Exchange provider at Airport). Found exchange rates for KUD to be too steep.I complined about such steep charges but no reply received, they simply wanted to seel only, that too at there rates/terms and condition.

I am wondering under what authority/regulation such Excahnge company operate and are there exchange rates monitored/approved by some authority?  I wrote a folloiwing email to them.

It simply bounced back. What recourse I have? And How/Whome to approach?

Regards

Vikram Gajjar

Dear Customer care department Head

I landed at Ahmadabad Airport (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport) on 11 th morning (flight Emirates EK450).
Required to pay for custom duty, I approached your Exchange counter at Arrival lounge.
Exchanged Kuwaiti Dinar 20.000  at  whooping rate of 197.4700,received  Indian Rupees 3944.00.
The rates shown on your web site on that day was 222.475076 (11.23% higher charged)

Kindly note the transaction detail as follows:
transaction ID 2524-99-7434,date:11-oct-2013,time:09.55

I am unable to understand, why I am charged so high exchange rate?It is unfair to do so when I was in bad need of I Rs to pay for unexpected custom duty.

You should fairly charge.

I expect you as a good business practice, return back to me the extra amount charged by you.

Am wondering under what rule and regulation you are operating and how you are authorized to charge such high exchange rates?

In case of no satisfactory reply is received from you I may have to approach related authority.

Awaiting response

Dear Vikram, money exchangers at Airport are free to charge the rates which they found suitable. In case you want to raise the issue, please file a complaint with RBI for the same.
