Help in Mutual fund selection

POSTED BY Santosh Kulkarni ON May 22, 2013 3:40 pm COMMENTS (5)

Hi guys,

I have selected the following funds for investment via SIP for a period of 10 years :

  1. HDFC Top 200 Fund (G)
  2. UTI – Opportunities Fund (G)
  3. ICICI Pru Focused Bluechip Equity Fund (G)
  4. Canara Robeco Equity Diversified (G)
  5. Frankin India Bluechip-G

I wish to invest 2500 per fund.

Should I add any debt/hybrid fund to this list or are there any other suggestions to this list or is this fine ?

  1. Dear Santosh, please check the underlying portfolio of your funds & see are you really diversified or merely duplicating your investment in same stocks?

    thanks

      Hi Ashal,

      Thank you for the reply.

I have updated the funds list :

      1. HDFC Top 200 Fund (G) / Franklin India Bluechip – 2.5k
      2. UTI Opportunity – 2.5k
      3. IDFC premeir equity plan – 2.5k
      4. HDFC Balanced fund growth – 2.5k

What do you think about this list ? Does this look fine ?

        Dear Santosh,

The idea here is to select best performing fund with least possible duplication in their holdings. Now that you have identified best performing funds, try and see their stock holding and analyse how much duplication is there. No point in having 2/4/6 funds with high degree of duplication in their stock holdings.

    Hi Ashal,

    Thanks for the suggestion.
Could you tell me why only 2 funds from the list ?

  3. Dear Santosh, only funds can do it for you from your selected list..

    1. Franklin India Bluechip
    2. UTI Opportunity

    Thanks

    Ashal
