Does your PAN change if your citizenship changes?

POSTED BY Bunker ON July 26, 2013 7:20 pm COMMENTS (3)

If a Indian Citizen obtains a PAN as a Resident Indian Citizen, then moves to a foreign country and becomes a citizen there, then after a long time returns back to India on a foreign passport and say OCI, will it impact his/her PAN obtained as Indian citizen?

Do Expats have different PAN numbers? Do such ex-Indian citizens who return with a foreign passport need to file “updation of PAN details” and give new documents?

  1. Bunker says:

As per the change form, there is no citizenship information being captured. So technically if nothing has changed after arrival in India on foreign passport, then there is no need to file updation of details.

    Bunker,
You need to get your details updated as mentioned by Ashal. The relevant form is http://incometaxindia.gov.in/Archive/ChangeForm.PDF

  3. Dear Bunker, only updation in PAN record is required. the PAN ‘ll remain same.

    thanks

    Ashal
