Difference between DPId and Client ID?

Dear All,

What is the difference between Client ID and DP Id?  How are they related and different?  Should Client ID be larger (in terms of the number of characters) than DP Id?

    DP Id is given to the DP (broker like sharekahan, IIFL etc.) It is generally 8 characters….

    Client ID is given by the DP to its customer to identify him which is unique. It is also 8 characters….

    Combination of both will form your Demat Account No.
