CIBIL Report Specific Question

POSTED BY mayur nayak ON December 7, 2012 5:12 pm COMMENTS (2)

I had a Citibank Credit card which I unfortunately misplaced and had to cancel it. Since I did not have any details regarding my credit card , they could not send me the E-statement and hence i could not pay the amount of 2700. This was in 2010, July.

Since then I have checked my CIBIL score in Nov 2011 . It was 816. I checked it again in Dec 2012 . it was 808. The Current Amount for the credit card is showing as 5016, but there is not Written off or any other details. Only Outstanding amount and Current amount can be seen. Also Actual payment amount shows 15,000 ( I dont know what this is ). There are no DPD’s or any other bad remarks on my report.

What I want to know , is Will Citibank mark Written off for my credit card ? How long does a bank take to put Written off into the CIBIL report?

    Dear Mr. Nayak,

Did you not pay the outstanding balance on your credit card before closing it? Also Citibank not sending you the E – statement is not a reason for you not to pay the outstanding balance.

As there are no DPD or any other bad remarks on your credit report, then the reason for the drop in your score from 816 to 808 is possibly because of the outstanding amount of Rs.5,016. The Actual payment amount means the last amount paid by you on the credit card.

Pay the outstanding amount, close the card and obtain a NOC from the bank. Only paying off the outstanding amount will ensure that Citibank does not write – off your account. And if you wish to retain the credit card; pay off the outstanding amount immediately.

The amount of time that a bank will wait before entering a write – off remark will depend on the credit policy of the bank.
