Hi,
I have got a call from HSBC about co branded card with makemytrip. They are offering me cashback upto the extent of air fare booked in one of the transaction through makemytrip – it is 5 thousand rupees.
As per procedure mentioned by salesman, to avail the cashback, I have to activate card by doing a transaction, I have to pay 500 Rs annual maintenance charge. Then 5000 Rs will be credited to my account which I can spend on any transaction including buying petrol. I wonder whether salesman is giving correct information? whether I should avail that offer?
I have asked him multiple times whether there are any cancellation charges. Every time he has confirmed that there are no cancellation charges.
I have his visiting card and I know he is employee of HSBC. Interestingly, visiting card has his manager’s number also.

40 days after issuing card – 20 days after paying annual fees – I was given cashback offer of 5000 Rs. The amount is credited in card. So you can use it for any purpose. I used to pay insurance premium online. So the offer is true.
I am also given vouchers totalling around 5000 Rs which I can redeem against international travel. I am also given two vouchers worth 500 Rs. each which I can use only on domestic travel on GoIndigo

I got a similar call from HSBC about the cash back of Rs. 5ooo for the transaction that I have made on makemytrip.com
Since I was also skeptical about the cashback, I inquired about the T&C and read the same. They seem to be genuine.
I am going ahead with the card, let us see what happens. At max, a loss of Rs.500 annual fees.

Hi Ashal, Thanks for your reply. I have done a transaction in Dec with MMT and they are now giving this offer based on that transaction only. It seems to be a good offer, but, I m not sure whether it is correct or not. They are giving 5000 cashback for the amount which I already spent. I hope there would not be any other hidden things. Dear Shaf, w’d you be ready to spend say 15000 Rs. on a MMT (makemytrip) deal to get the benefit of 5000 Rs? I’m giving an example only.

Are they giving 5000 inr to spend any where or it is just limited to Makemytrip only.
Please tell me if it a valid offer or they are trying to cheat.

Dear Sanjay, normally cobranded cards offers such money to use only at the cobrand shop/website. I w’d ask you to read the detailed T&C before falling into any trap.
