    Dear Subhash,

Since you have emails from the the banks and you have also now written to them, you are doing the correct thing.

You should continue to pursue with them and ensure that they correct your records at CIBIL and any other bureau that they are a member of.

In case they do not respond and fail to take action within reasonable time, then you could consider writing to RBI or / and the Banking Ombudsman.

    Dear Mr. Sawant,

Before you cancel your credit card ensure that you have paid the outstanding in full. Further to de – activate your credit card you can write a mail to the credit card issuer or call up the customer care and follow their instructions. Request a written confirmation of closure of the credit card and cut the credit card into 4 pieces before disposing.

      Hi

I have 3 credit cards since 2006 which i paid all the dues and have closed and i have emails from bank stating that the cards have been closed.
Last week after going through the blogs i came across the idea of getting my cibil report and applied for the same. I found that these cards are still active and being reported in cibil i am again writing to these banks yet to hear from them any advice on how to proceed.

    1. Ask the customer care of xyz bank nicely first about the particular procedure.

    2. Mostly, the above procedure will fail. So, the sureshot way is call the customer care number and say, you want to report that card as stolen/misplaced and hotlist it immediately. And say, you do not want it to be replaced or renewed. That should do it.
