Can we use “email id” as authentication instead of “mobile number” because I am going Abroad ?

Hi,

I will be traveling to US in 2 weeks. All my bank accounts use  my registered mobile number to send OTPs, netsafe codes and authentications.  What are the various possibilities I have once I go abroad?

Can I ask bank to use email id to send me passwords and OTPs? Or should I give some relatives mobile number for authentication purpose?

Also, I have a credit card from HDFC.  Should I continue it or just cancel it off before travelling?

Regards,

Kartik

Dear Karthik, you may carry your Indian mobile number with international roaming activated. Having prepaid indian number is helpful as you w’d not have to pay any roaming fee. Please use the number for only incomeing sms.

    Thanks

    Kartik –
If you are using ICICI then they have something called i-Safe. This is an OTP generator and can be used in offline mode. You need to do some setup on the phone before you leave from India.
A friend of mine got his international roaming activated and took his phone with him. Check how much would that cost and dont use it to make / receive phone calls and outgoing SMS.
