Can I show Rent paid to Parent to avail HRA , but my parents live in different city !

Dear Sir,

I am married and salaried person working in Gurgaon. I have rented a small house in gurgaon while my wife is living with my parents in Kolkata. The house where my parents and my wife is living is in name of my mother.

Now, my question is that can i show rent paid to my parents although they along with my wife living in a different city than where i am working.

    Deas Eitrati, yes it’s possible but do remember onus lies on you to provide valid proofs of all the payments. 🙂

    I think its tough . The rent receipt has to be on your name and how can you live in other city? It will be questioned . Infact it does not make any sense !
