Can I open PPF account in SBI without having an account with them?

Hi,

My wife has an account with SBI  and recently I opened a PPF account for her in SBI and now we can access the PPF account online, I.e., checking transaction, balance etc..

Now I have my PPF in PostOffice, and I would like to know if I can transfer my PPF account to SBI but without opening a new account with them? I was told the Bank people a bit reluctant to accept the PPF application if I don’t have an account with them – is this true? Do you think I will be able to transfer my PPF to SBI and link my PPF under my wife’s online banking so I can see both of us PPF account balance, transfer under one online banking profile?

Saving account with SBI is not required. Also, allowing to open PPF account is not a choice given to any bank. If one requests to open PPF account, it must be opened. They may be reluctant but you should be firm on opening it as it’s your RIGHT.

There is no necessity of savings account to have PPF account. Yes, they might be reluctant to accept PPF application without savings account. Better open savings account and then transfer it from post office.

You can’t see your PPF account in your wife’s netbanking account.
